Panic and turmoil are worsening in global financial markets as the US midterm elections, scheduled for November 3, approach, amid escalating rhetoric between US and Iranian officials that is fueling fears about stalled negotiations and the possibility of renewed military confrontation.
The escalating rhetoric and mutual threats indicate a growing likelihood of a return to military conflict by the end of October, or after the US elections on November 3, which puts markets in a very sensitive phase where geopolitical risks intertwine with political and economic uncertainty.
Oil prices surge as financial markets decline
These concerns were clearly reflected in energy prices, precious metals, and US stock indices, with Brent crude jumping to $114.05 a barrel, while US crude surpassed the $100 mark.
In contrast, precious metals experienced a sharp sell-off, with silver plummeting by 5.38% and gold declining by 2.38%, indicating widespread selling and liquidation of investment positions despite ongoing geopolitical risks.
As for the US stock markets, they were subjected to strong selling pressure, especially the technology sector, with the Nasdaq 100 index falling by more than 3%, while the S&P 500 index declined by 1.54%.

Expectations of continued market turmoil
The sharp fluctuations in financial markets are likely to continue in the coming days as long as the escalating statements and military threats persist, especially with the approach of the US midterm elections and the increasing uncertainty about the future of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Oil prices remain among the most sensitive assets to the possibility of renewed conflict, while stock and precious metals markets face the risk of widespread selling and reduced investment positions should fears escalate.
Under these circumstances, price expectations become less stable, with the possibility of sharp and sudden movements in various markets depending on any new political or military developments.
